Make StumbleUpon send you good traffic

StumbleUpon is a great source of traffic.  In fact, since this blog opened, it has been our number one referrer.  It is good for a couple of reasons - 1) It can send massive amounts of traffic to your site.  2) Links from StumbleUpon are highly valued in search engines as they are coming from a high PageRank site and they are “dofollow.”

Basic things about viral marketing

When thinking about how to promote your site virally, first study your site… see how you could make it better.  Ask yourself, “If I ever visited this site, would I want to tell my friends about it?”  If that answer is no, do everything you can to make your site more usable and friendly.  Think about adding freebies, greeting cards, games, screen savers, or anything else that will get sent around easily.

The most important thing to remember in marketing a website is that it requires patience. Patience to build up links and patience to get a steady flow of traffic. A lot of sites give up before they make it big because they think the internet is full of overnight success stories… but in reality, if they waited a few more months, they would start to see good traffic.
