Breakthrough mediocrity and get real traffic
Ideas, SEO, Site Management June 14th, 2008So you’re already ranked on the first page of Google for your keywords and there is seemingly no more SEO work for you to do. The only problem is, now that you are there… you are realizing that the traffic levels are not as good as you had once thought. How do you break thorough this slump and continue your growth?
In this situation, I would research some new search terms. Make sure you know what you’re trying to rank on and why. Finding the right keywords is a huge part of internet marketing and if done correctly can get you some solid traffic. In my opinion, this is absolutely the difference between working hard for nothing and getting results. If your site(s) is new, just find some medium - mediocre search terms without too much competition and hit them. Then when your site has some weight, go for some more competitive terms.
Always keep building content and forging relationships with related and complimentary bloggers. Do this by subscribing to similar niche blogs such as yours that are extremely popular. Write a high quality comment (disagree post, or “perhaps-otherwise” post, don’t write “I totally agree, the end” post) about their post on how you feel and stuff, and ping it back to them. You may pick up audiences that subscribes to similar topical posts.
Also, see if you can get people to submit their email addresses for newsletters. That way, every time you write 3 or 4 new posts, you just send out an email to your newsletter subscribers with the first paragraph of each - boom, return traffic.
Anyways, good luck. Remember, this is a process. Building is step 1. Now it’s maintaining and growing. The search engines will notice your attention and improve your ranking over time.
