The most effective way to market your website is to advertise in the places that have people interested in your subject.  If you want to reach students - go to a school.  If you want to get businessmen - go to an airport.  If you want to reach people in legal trouble - go to a seedy bar or something.  Sometimes you need to get creative.

Let’s take people with a high net worth for example…  If you want to advertise your tropical resort vacation packages, five star hotels, high end golf equipment, etc. you should try and target people that have money.

So, how should one do this one the internet?

The good thing about Google Adwords is that you can hone in and get as specific as possible.  If you want to find lawyers specializing in internet law in the Providence, RI area, you shouldn’t have a problem.  Unfortunately, with Adwords, advertising costs are likely to run sky-high.  In most cases, I recommend putting on your thinking cap and trying to reach your target market in a different way.

Going back to the example above.  If you want to get at people that have a lot of money, you might want to try advertising on blogs that they read.  High net worth individuals are likely to be the ones reading these blogs (rather than an assistant or secretary) because they contain information that is important for their professional development.

When reaching the wealthy, affluent market you need to think even further outside the box.  IMO, Forget about ads. You think these folks got to where they are at by calling 1-800 #’s and clicking ads? I don’t think so. They took advice from people they respected and learned on their own.  In this case, consider paying a respected blogger to make a post about your site or product.
