Posted by James on April 17th, 2008

A lot of people seem to have Google all figured out. After all, there are millions of pages of search engine optimization strategies on the web and most of them pertain mostly to Google. Importance of outgoing links

Posted by James on April 16th, 2008

If you want to keep your visitors on your site for the longest amount of time possible, you might not want to have too many outbound links.  You might also want to keep your hard earned visitors so they don’t wander their way onto your competitor’s site.  It is also said that outgoing links can have a negative effect on your search engine rankings because you are spreading too much page rank around.  On the other hand, links pointing to other sites might actually be good for your search engine rankings and for your site’s overall usability.

10 things that SEO is not

Posted by James on April 15th, 2008
  • It’s not a magical way to get visitors to your site - It takes months if not years to see results.
  • It’s not sneaky way to cheat search engines - Most SEO methods actually add usability for your users.
  • It’s not simply adding meta tags to your site - There are lots of other factors to look at for search engine optimization.
  • It’s not PPC - You can’t buy your way to the top of search results like you can with pay-per-click. With SEO, you have to build up your “status” over a long period of time. SEO is like long-term investing whereas PPC is like day-trading.
  • It’s not as easy as it looks - Sure, it can be simple, but it requires a lot of long, tedious work.
  • It’s not about keyword stuffing - You have to carefully add keywords to your pages in a natural way.
  • It’s not “set it and forget it” - Once you get good rankings, you can’t rest easy thinking you will always be on top. You have to MAINTAIN your rankings.
  • It’s not static - It changes over time as search engines add new algorithms for ranking sites.
  • It’s not a science - There is no formula to figure our how to rank in search engines. It requires experimentation and practice.
  • It’s not the most important thing - You can optimize your site for search engines all you want, but that still doesn’t mean you’ll get sales, conversions, or be successful with your site. There is much more to web marketing!

The key to web promotion is PATIENCE

Posted by James on April 13th, 2008

The most important thing to remember in marketing a website is that it requires patience. Patience to build up links and patience to get a steady flow of traffic. A lot of sites give up before they make it big because they think the internet is full of overnight success stories… but in reality, if they waited a few more months, they would start to see good traffic.
