During the first Google PageRank update of it’s existence, GettingMoreVisitors.com achieved a Pagerank of 3. A PR3 is not exactly something to be proud of, but it’s a good start.

When I heard from a friend yesterday that Google was updating it’s Pagerank, I didn’t really expect for us to get one. Because our site is only around one month old and it usually takes sites 3-6 months to get a Pagerank, I thought we had about a 0% chance of actually getting one. However, when I opened GettingMoreVisitors.com this morning in my browser, I was pleasantly surprised to see it actually show something in my Google Toolbar.

Generally, the more links you have pointing to your site, the higher your Pagerank will be. So, naturally, I am not yet satisfied with my Pagerank. I think a PR of 6 or 7 is a good final goal for this blog.

Here’s what I did right and what I did wrong in my first month (in terms of PR):

Good

  • I submitted each artilce I wrote to just about every social media site I could find.
  • I frequently commented on every reated blog I could find. (More so on the blogs that are dofollow)
  • I posted my link in all the forum signatures of the forums I frequent.

Bad

  • I did not enough link exchanges from reated sites. But I have a good excuse for this (kind of): Without a PR, it’s hard for new sites to get traffic. This is due to the fact that Google PR is one of form of “credit.” If you have no PR, it’s hard to believe that your site has any type of credibility.
  • The quality of my blog posts is currently pretty poor. Becuase of this, nobody is giving me links. I think that if I write better posts, the site will get spread faster via word of mouth and thus build up some natural backlinks.
