Secrets to getting Digg to send you visitors
Ideas, Viral Marketing April 28th, 2008I wrote a little bit about Digg a while back and also about some more general social media optimization stuff… but the problem with those methods are that they are all very obvious and easy to figure out. Today, I’m gonna write about some clever and sneaky ways to grab some Digg traffic.
- Redirect the page you are “digging” to another page using 301 redirect. This way you can submit the same page multiple times. (Note - Google sometimes bans or penalizes sites that use 301s… so use this tip at your own risk. Also, Digg obviously won’t like it either.)
- Put the wrong Digg button on your pages. If you have a popular page, or one that has already been “dug”, why not replace the Digg buttons on that page with a Digg button for your new, upcoming article?
- On-exit auto Digg. Write a small Javascript program that will make your visitors unknowingly Digg your page when they close out of it. (I have no idea how to go about doing this, but I’m sure a good Javascript programmer can do it.)
