Buy old domains for a head start
Ideas, SEO April 24th, 2008I found this post below on a forum I visit frequently… it’s all about how you can get a head start on your competition buy buying a domain name that is pre-owned. Doing this will save you lots of time and allow you to spend more time on developing a better site. Enjoy!
Time and time again I see people start new sites. Keep in mind in this case we’re talking about whitehat sites that you’re going to put a lot of time and effort into such as a blog, forum or website. The first thing they do is go search whatever domain hosting company for a domain that works well for the site that they’re building.
I just can’t understand why people do things this way…. Do you have any idea how long it takes people to build links, get indexed on top of creating the site and content. Typically for a decent words it’s going to take about 6 monthes - 1 year of pretty religious consistent work. Do you think the sandbox is a concern with an aged domain?
Now take buying a domain with PR 5-6, 1k backlinks showing in google, 500 indexed pages in google. Now stop and imagine how much of a head start this is going to give you. Think of how much more time you can put into building a better site and content. It’ll save you sooooooooo much time to buy a used domain that has some weight and some indexing.
Now I hear oh but a good domain might cost me 200-300$, or I have to have special tools to find them cheap. I say SO WHAT…. Imagine the loss of income you’re going to experience by NOT having that domain working for you for a year. And how much time it’s going to take you. I don’t know what your time is worth but I consider mine to be worth quite a lot. Even if you only make 10$/hour it’s well worth the investment. If you’re making a site that’s going to make you only 10$/week that year of not really ranking is going to cost you 500$.
These are all things to consider…. People amaze me they want to get rich on the internet and don’t want to spend a dime. This is like any other business people, you have to invest money to make money.
So what spurred this post you’re probably asking. There’s always a reason and no it’s not cause I want to sell anything. It’s rather a frustration with people getting involved with internet marketing and not wanting to invest money, then not having much success and not understanding why.
I have a fellow I’ve had on IM for about a year and he came to me asking me for proxies for this project that he’s been coding for the last 8 monthes. CODING FOR 8 Monthes! It’s totally complete and he’s having an issue using it cause he can’t scrape properly without enough IP’s cause they keep blocking him. I asked him if he ran tests on this system before he built it and he said “yes”, which is not the norm in the BH world mind you. Then I asked him how much his test sites made and he said 1$ a day. So he ran 20 sites manually that he built by hand and was making 20$/day from them. Great! So he coded up a system to build 100-1000’s of these sites rapidly but he’s held back by not having proxies. So I told him where to get proxies 400$ a month, now keep in mind that sounds like a lot, but it’s all about ROI. If you invest $400 and can make 1000 sites that $1000 a day. That’s $30k per month. 400$ gets you 30,000$…I don’t understand what the issue is. But the dude just won’t spend the money…..
I see this time and time again in the internet marketing world. People want to invest NOTHING and become a millionaire. That’s just not the way it works.
The only other thing I can think of is that the person unwilling to invest in something doesn’t believe it’s going to work. If you don’t believe it’s going to work you’re not going to put that much work into it. If you’re not going to put that much work into it FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO DO.
Back to where we started, if you’re going to start a whitehat site you plan on putting a lot of time and energy into give yourself a head-start on indexing, links, weight, trust, out of the sandbox and buy a seasoned domain.

Remember that an aged domain can also come with negative things associated with being owned by somebody else. For instance, the domain could be banned from google adsense or may have google penalties attached to it amongst other things.
If a domain has 1000 back links built from black hat techniques, this could wind up punishing the site in the long run. So make sure you are careful when delving into buying ‘used’ domains.
