Step by step method for creating a high traffic website
Ideas, Link exchanges, SEO, Site Management, Viral Marketing April 23rd, 2008The steps below can work for any type of website in creating more traffic… follow them step by step and your website will be huge in no time! (This post is very similar to an older post I made, combine these methods with the other and your site will be unstoppable)
- Search for a domain name with potential. First you need to get some ideas about what keywords in the niche you are targeting get a lot of visitors. You can do this by plugging phrases into Google’s Keyword Tool and see what comes up. Once you get a good keyword to target, search for a domain name with that keyword that is available and buy it!
- Build the site offline. Put lots of text on every page as search engines love text. Use the keyword tool again to find keywords related to your site and build pages about them.
- Upload everything to through FTP and make sure the site is completely functional. Google doesn’t like broken sites and either do web surfers.
- Get a sitemap set up and submit it to Google.
- Start building up backlinks from social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Delicious, Netscape, Reddit, Fark, FURL, Shoutwire, etc. There are hundreds of these… sign up for as many as possible.
- Set up a few threads on various webmaster forums asking for link exchanges. Sitepoint.com, Digitalpoint, Geekvillage, WarriorForum are all good choices. You should be able to get about 10 quality link exchanges using this method.
- Spend around $100 and get some directory submissions from someone. This can easily be outsourced and is cheap and easy. Look around for these services on webmaster forums. These links from directories will be worth it in the long run.
- While doing all this promotion work, don’t forget to constantly update and edit your site. The search engines love this.
- Spend some money buying a link or two from some high traffic sites in your niche. These shouldn’t be too expensive, and the search engines will reward you because this will make them think you are “legit.”
- Throw in some typos around on your pages. This might sound strange, but people misspell their searches all the time and because nobody spends money targeting misspellings, top rankings for these terms can be had easily. Examples I could use on this site might be “we bpromotion” and “getting mroe visitors.”
- Take advantage of youtube. Throw up some videos related to your site and add a watermark with your URL… also add your link in the video description. For this part, this post might be of help to you.
- Keep at it and never give up… eventually the traffic will come.

I like how you brought up the misspellings. I own a site and i get many many mispelled hits. some might say my site is a total mess, yet i dont really care becuase now i have a niche. i also like your dedication, in step two that reads
“Build the site offline. Put lots of text on every page as search engines love text. Use the keyword tool again to find keywords related to your site and build pages about hem’
miss spelling ‘them’ with ‘hem’ you are a wonderful man with lots of knowledge, and i will assume massivley successful. let me know if you ever want to let a newbie in on your sites. I am sure it would work out well. thanks for the great post and cant wait to see your next…
love.. i mean thanks again

what to do if site contains many pictures, should add words needlessly? And question about directory listings, how necessary is this. If enough time is let pass wont search engines just index anyway? Thanks James

For picture sites… perhaps add a one or two word description for each picture.
The search engines will usually index you over time no matter what; but directory listings, just like any other incoming link will help your site achieve a higher ranking in the search engines.

Lehrom,
You also need to take into consideration your placement in the search engines is largely correlated to external factors. The most predominant external factor being incoming links. Think of them as ‘votes’ for your web site and the more ‘votes’ you have from established ‘voters’(websites) you have, the better placement you will receive in the search engine listings.
