Quick web design tip - above the fold!
Ideas, Site Management April 5th, 2008If you want to keep your users coming back again and again to your site, you will need to have an easy to use layout. An easy to use layout entails not many ads, fast loading graphics, no pop-ups, good navigation, etc.
One of the most helpful/useful/easiest/smartest things for you to do is to put your content above the fold. If you have your site’s main content above the page fold (meaning: users don’t have to scroll down to see the content), you will get more pageviews and your visitors are more likely to return. It will be tempting to put ads, links to other content, graphics, etc. above the content, but this will most likely take up most of the page and give the user a bad experience.
Why is this the case? Why do you need to have the content above the fold? Well, web users are lazy and want fast, instant results. If you plan on catching your visitors attention, you need to have that content staring right at their face the moment they open your site. Otherwise they will just leave and probably never stumble upon your site ever again.
