Using video based content instead of text based content
Ideas, Site Management, Viral Marketing April 4th, 2008I found this post on a message board and it makes a really good case for putting up content in video form….
I’ve done this (using videos for content) lots in the past and continue to do so now and into the future but you have to remember that if you are using Videos for content you still need text content to get the page properly indexed.
Videos can increase visitor stay times and can gain more brand exposure if you are using your own video players.
Another thing about videos where I am gaining around 500 unique a day from it is the somewhat newer video sitemap files that Google allows.
There is no easy tool that allows you to create a Google video sitemap but if you have lots of vids on your site then it can really help your traffic levels as stated above I’ve got a boost of 500 unique per day from adding my video sitemap and I was lucky enough to get almost all my videos in Google Video with no additional work for me.
It took just over a month to see them get indexed in Google video but nonetheless I think it was worth the hour or so it took me to finish building my sitemap.
Another thing I’ve noticed about video based sites though is that they convert a little lower then others however this is largely based upon which niche you are in because a couple of my video sites convert really shitty but get tons and tons of organic traffic (Mainly from Google video) but another video site of mine gets pretty good conversions from PPC and a little organic traffic.
There are tons of possibilities with online video right now and if your smart enough to play around and get things working you can really hack out some good income from a few niches.
You can also think about having your own flash player which allows you to display your logo and advertisements at the end of the videos and then get them spread around, if you can get a really viral video which allows you to have an ad displayed in it then that right there could end up as a little extra cash for no additional work on your end.
Think, Plan, Execute, and then re-do it all over again until something sticks.
