Every time there is a big news story: September 11, Hurricane Katrina, Southeast Asian Tsunami, etc. Anything like this that is unexpected, you need to take advantage of it. Current events definitely get visitors. Breaking news stories all have one thing in common: They are all untapped markets with HUGE potential. Whenever something happens, Google is desperately searching for information to display. But how do YOU get some of these visitors?

Sites that stay fresh and updated have HUGE advantages over sites that don’t.
1) The first reason is the most obvious: it keeps visitors coming back to see whats new. A site that is never updated will never have repeat visitors because once they read everything there is to read they will just move on… and never come back.
2) Search engines will keep coming back to you! Adding new pages will trigger the search engine robots to come back to your site and index the new content. Sites that are frequently updated are also proven to have higher search engine rankings.
3) If you have an RSS/XML feed (highly recommended that you do), new content will be featured on many of the blog feed readers. If you wanna check out a list of sites to submit your RSS feed to, go here.

One of my friends let me know of this idea a while ago, but I actually have never tried it myself (if anybody wants to, let me know how you do). What he wanted to do was promote his ringtones website without having to pay any advertising bills. To accomplish this, he decided to take advantage of the high traffic over at youtube.
