Post comments in blogs
Ideas, SEO March 27th, 2008Every time you post a comment in a blog, you will get a link back to your site. It’s a really simple way to start building up back-links to your site. Find a bunch of blogs related to your site and comment on them as often as possible.
Try to set a goal everyday. For example, comment on 10 blogs everyday. This is a sure-fire way to get new incoming links to your website.
If you think that this sounds a little too good to be true… You are right, it actually is a little more complicated. Most blogs these days add “no-follow” code to all of their link. What the “no-follow” does is it tells search engines to not visit the site in the link. So if you want to get a search engine benefit from all the blogs you are commenting on, you won’t.
However, there are many blogs that do not use this “no-follow” rule. THESE ARE THE BLOGS YOU SHOULD BE COMMENTING ON. Don’t even bother commenting on the blogs that have “no-follow,” it’s a waste of time.
So, how do you find blogs that don’t have “no-follow.” Well, there are two ways:
- You can go and search for them yourself. Search Technorati or Google for blogs that are related to the site you are promoting. Once you find a blog you want to comment on, go to the page where their comments are displayed. Since this site is related to web marketing / web development… I found a few related blogs to check for.
The first blog I want to test is Shoemoney’s. To test if it’s good or not, I view the source code and do a search for the phrase “nofollow”. It turns out that in his comments section, outgoing links use the “nofollow” tag… this is no good. Move to the next blog and forget about it.
The second blog I’ll test is PimpMyPageRank. I repeat the same process that I did with Shoemoney. BINGO! He does not add a “nofollow” to his link codes… we can comment on this blog. - There are a bunch of sites that actually list blogs that do not nofollow. I have found some of them and here they are: Site 1 , Site 2 , Site 3
- Use this great tool to help you search for blogs that DoFollow
There you go! Enjoy your time getting links… it will be a long process, but in the end it will pay off!

Leaving comments on blogs is a great way to build back links. If your site is an ecommerce site, prior to commenting on blogs for backlinks, put a blog on your site. This will enable the bloggers to treat you as part of a community.
Many blogs that use No Follow may not provide the link juice, but if your comments are not spammy, they will serve to bring traffic to your site. I am sure a good comment on Shoemoneys site would bring a good bit of traffic.
Even if you are visiting a “Do Follow Blog”, make sure you leave good comments, not just “nice site” types of comments. If your comments are helpful they may result in even more Google juice when the blogger links to you in their next post which is even better than a comment link.

Such simple common sense ideas so many fail to follow. I also try to comment on blogs since this helps the article and I can put my link there too. Excellent advice. Didn’t make a plan of 10 or more comments, but it’s also a good idea …

There’s actually some value in commenting on nofollowed blogs. If they’re highly trafficked, like problogger.net, they can still send a steady stream of traffic.
