Increasing impressions per unique visitor
Ideas, Site Management March 20th, 2008The longer visitors stay on your site, the more likely they are to find something interesting and tell their friends. They are also more likely to click on ads. In addition, many advertising companies pay per page view (called CPM), so you might get some extra money just by having them view some more pages. But, how exactly do you get them to stay on your site? Let’s look at some possibilities:
Split your content into multiple pages
The most common way to do this is (if you have a blog) on your blogs main page, only put a paragraph or two of the new article and then a “Click here to continue reading” link at the bottom. Also, if you have a picture gallery, consider splitting it up and putting one image on each page instead of every picture on the same page. There are many ways to do this, just get creative.
Add links to other pages on your site
Make everything “inter-linked.” Always have an easy way for visitors to get to another part of your site. Have in-article-text-links going to other parts of your site. Consider putting a “Next Page” or “Previous Page” link at the top and bottom of each page. Maybe at the bottom of each article, have links to articles of similar interest. On the menu bar of your site, have a section for “Most Viewed Pages” or “Highest Rated Pages.” Basically try to think of anything that would/could increase usability and ease of navigation.
Use pictures or thumbnails
Internet users are more likely to click on an image than a boring text link, so try and make thumbnail images for your pages and put them at the top or bottom of articles and link them to other parts of your site.
