You should always be thinking about ways for your visitors to link to you. Buying links is expensive and trading links is troublesome and tiring. So why not get them for free with no effort?

If you have pictures or videos on your site (anything viral will do.. even flash games). Offer an HTML code to your visitors so they can embed that picture/video to their myspace/xanga/blog. Of course, this code needs to include your text link at the bottom. For a good example of how to do this.. check out how FunLOL.com does it. (You can see the code right below the video)

FunLOL stuffs their embed code with 2 backlinks… one to going to funlol.com with the anchor text “Funny Videos” and one going to everyjoke.com with the anchor text “Funny Jokes.” So for every person that embeds his videos, he gets two free links out of it.

Of course, this is only one example for one type of site. There are probably many other ways to “trick” your visitors into linking to you and building up your links. Just be creative. After all, the links are free…Not a bad deal, right?
