3 big reasons why updating your website is important
General Marketing, Site Management March 11th, 2008Sites that stay fresh and updated have HUGE advantages over sites that don’t.
1) The first reason is the most obvious: it keeps visitors coming back to see whats new. A site that is never updated will never have repeat visitors because once they read everything there is to read they will just move on… and never come back.
2) Search engines will keep coming back to you! Adding new pages will trigger the search engine robots to come back to your site and index the new content. Sites that are frequently updated are also proven to have higher search engine rankings.
3) If you have an RSS/XML feed (highly recommended that you do), new content will be featured on many of the blog feed readers. If you wanna check out a list of sites to submit your RSS feed to, go here.
If you went through all the trouble to actually create a website, why not make the most of it and actually update it? If you don’t update, your competitors will. They will steal traffic that could be yours.
If you are not sure how to update or where to start. I suggest the following methods:
- Start a blog. If you have nothing to write about your actual company/site, just write about industry news or something. Anything to keep the search engines and visitors coming back!
- Add a forum… this is the lazy man’s way. It makes your users update your site without you doing any work.
- On your site’s main page, list pages that have been recently added or updated. (Obvious, I know, but it needed to be said just in case.)
There you go, now you have no excuses not to update!
